2017 and 2018 SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS

NEW COURSE TAUGHT IN PASO ROBLES, CALIFORNIA
Acupuncture Sports Medicine Review and Practicum
With Whitfield Reaves, OMD, LAc

This weekend is open to all those who have completed The Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship Program. This is a first time offering, and it follows the outline of the NCCAOM approved course Anatomically Significant Points and How to Use Them. Time will be spent primarily in review and practice sessions using the local and adjacent points seen in orthopedic and sports acupuncture. These “anatomically significant points”, introduced in The Apprenticeship Program, require skill and precision in their use for treatment of sports injury and pain. This two-day course is designed for direct supervision of palpation, location, and needle technique.

This Review and Practicum will be limited in size to 12 participants so as to give each practitioner attention to their questions and specific needs. There will be two assistants in addition to the instruction and supervision of Whitfield Reaves.

The Acupuncture Sports Medicine Apprenticeship Program
We offer this program on orthopedic and sports acupuncture several times a year. This is our "flagship" seminar series, offered annually. For the last few years, we have taught in Oakland, California and Maui, Hawaii. We are now adding a new site in San Luis Obispo, on the central coast of California.

The Oakland courses are limited to fourteen to sixteen practitioners. The mentorship-style group includes four experienced practitioners to assist Whitfield Reaves with instruction and supervision. The site in on the San Francisco Bay in Alameda, near the Oakland airport, and a ferry ride from downtown San Francisco. Practitioners may take these three-day weekends and receive a
Certificate of Completion in Acupuncture Sports Medicine. They may also be taken individually.

Application to the program is mandatory, and we give preference to practitioners with skills in anatomy, experience in sports and other related activities, and those who are considering specializing in orthopedic and sports medicine acupuncture. We try to create diversity in each Apprenticeship Program group that we teach, accepting applicants who are newly licensed practitioners, and then including those who are been in clinic for 5 to 10 years, and those with over 10 years of experience. This makes for a well-rounded community of practitioners in this intimate learning environment.

The instructional material and treatment techniques are the culmination of over 35 years of experience in sports acupuncture by Whitfield Reaves. We make all efforts to present the material in a manner that makes them clinically relevant and immediately applicable in one's acupuncture practice.
